Zomba Project

As part of our commitment to building climate-resilient communities, Imagine Afrika, through the Agroforestry Regenerative Communities (ARC) initiative, conducted a five-day intensive training for farmers in Zomba. This training was hosted at the renowned Permaculture Paradise Institute, a hub for sustainable land management and organic farming practices.

👨‍🌾 Empowering Local Farmers

A total of 50 farmers were carefully selected from three key areas under Group Village Heads:

  • Chisi, Jali, Chikapa.

These farmers participated in practical, hands-on training sessions designed to equip them with knowledge in:

  • Permaculture principles

  • Soil restoration

  • Organic farming and composting

  • Agroforestry techniques

  • Water conservation and sustainable land use

The goal was to empower these lead farmers to become ambassadors of regenerative agriculture within their communities, promoting climate-smart practices that restore degraded lands and improve food security.

🌳 A Broader Mission in Zomba

This initiative is part of a larger effort by Imagine Afrika in Zomba district, where we are actively:

  • Promoting indigenous tree species such as Gledtsia and Nsangu to support reforestation and ecological restoration.

  • Encouraging farmers to transition from chemical fertilizers to organic options, preserving soil health for future generations.

      Composite manure Making
  • Supporting over 300,000 students in secondary schools with clean water, hygiene education, and improved sanitation infrastructure.

  • Introducing portable chlorine generation units and Eco-San toilets to improve access to safe water and sustainable waste management, especially in underserved and remote areas.

Through these interconnected interventions, Imagine Afrika is helping to shape a greener, healthier, and more self-reliant Zomba.
